ewo's Philosophy
Significantly increasing the feel-good character of public places is at the heart of the ewo philosophy of "empowering wellbeing outdoors". In this sense, light becomes a source of meaning, an object that contrasts the often-harsh urban reality with the community-building poetry of a shared campfire.
Light Creates Space to Feel Good
Light is the origin of evolution and society. Like fire in the past, it brings people together and promotes exchange. Light creates a space for interaction. As a company, we therefore always place value on the human aspect as well as the technology. Our goal is to promote well-being in public spaces: "empowering wellbeing outdoors".
Our pioneering projects in cities such as Oslo, Copenhagen and Vienna stand for seeing light in an emotional context. With modular, adaptable luminaires and different light distributions and colors, we create different atmospheres and take cultural differences into account. This creates a space in which people feel comfortable, similar to a campfire.

The artist duo Edward Beierle and Jutta Goerlich use photographs and installations to explore the transformation of places through light. They often work in the vicinity of architecture, in places that are undergoing transformation. In 2020, they were nominated for the City of Munich's Photography Prize.
Urban Lounge—a Photography Project
Public space is transformed from a symbol of urban isolation into a communal living room. Photographer Edward Beierle and artist Jutta Görlich have created visual, community-building poetry from harsh reality for ewo's Urban Lounge.
Bridge Between Inside and Outside
OFF // The bridge as a symbol of connection, urban wasteland below. A place that dreams of becoming part of the urban community at dusk. Until then, the bridge remains a place of quiet contemplation, from which energy has yet to be born.
ON // Let there be light, and let the non-place become a place. The bridge connects places, the light connects outside and inside. Light objects from ewo make the wasteland fit for social participation, transforming it into a feel-good place and illuminating it.

The Night in the Rhythm of Light
OFF // In the twilight, the empty parking lot hints at the dormant possibilities. A rehearsal room where music and sound are missing. It is a stage set without life, lacking light and heartbeat. The concert of the big city has not yet found its rhythm here.
ON // With the light come the sound waves. The barren practice room becomes an urban stage. Bollards stage the "Little Drummer Girl" as a kinetic fixed point. Where light becomes music and music becomes light, they merge. The sound of music at the speed of light...

From Non-Place to Living Room
OFF // Backyard sadness: Wooden pallets pile up like silhouettes of burnt-out skyscrapers and are reflected in the puddled water. Symbols of consumerism that come closer to nature again through green accents. An expression of pure abandonment waiting for revitalization.
ON // The light brings poetry into the cold backyard and transforms rustic gutter poetry into warm backyard poetry. The post-apocalyptic skyline is transformed into an urban fireside lounge. The light becomes the word, the illumination of the lifeless pallet city becomes an act of creation.
